Sailing enthusiasts with Classic Yachts are very welcome to the great jubilee year in Swedish sport, commemorating the Olympic Games in Stockholm one hundred years ago. Various organizations in Sweden are preparing celebrations throughout the country, but naturally mostly in the Stockholm area.
The celebrations continue through most of the summer and the commemoration of the Olympic Yacht Races starts with a non-competitive rally from the south of Sweden up to Nynäshamn where the veteran boat festival “Classic Boat Meet” is held. The first meeting point will be in Simrishamn after which there will be stops in the three maritime centres Karlskrona, Kalmar and Västervik. The yacht clubs, local authorities and business communities in these places will host a cultural program with a maritime theme and, of course, social mingling. The route will take a week to complete from 9 to 17 July after which the rally splits into two groups, one sailing through the archipelago to Nynäshamn and the other departing across the open sea to Visby on Gotland for the classic Visby Race to Nynäshamn.
All are welcome to join the rally at the place of their choice. The only condition is that the boat classifies as a Classic Yacht, and that you register in advance so that berths can be arranged at the harbours. A charge of 2500 kronor is made to cover harbour berths is Simrishamn, Karlskrona, Kalmar and Västervik, amongst other expenses
